Description
Nijisseiki Nashi is a semi dwarf tree that produces a delicious sweet fruit with white, crisp and crunchy flesh. The trees are self-fertile but can be used to pollinate the other Nashi/Pear varieties.
It is regarded as subtropical low chill variety but has more of a medium chilling requirement (approx 400 hours) compared to other subtropical low chill nashi pears. To calculate the chilling hours for your area please refer to our blog Guide to Chilling Hours in Australia . It will also perform well in cold temperate climates.
A Japanese variety it was selected by Kakunosuke Matsudo at Ishii, Chiba in 1898.
Best grown in well drained fertile soil.. left unpruned trees will reach 3 to 4m. Suits full sun or light shade. They make great screens and informal hedges.
Our grafted Nashi Pear (Pyrus pyrifolia) trees are 60 to 80cm tall, sun hardened and ready to plant into the ground or a large pot… these are not bare root trees, they are grown in pots and have a well established root system.
Please note: due to quarantine restrictions plants cannot be sent to Northern Territory, Tasmania or Western Australia.
