Ben Hur is very adaptable tree and will grow in regions ranging from cool temperate to sub-tropical. It is small deciduous tree/shrub that is generally best maintained at around 2- 3m high but can reach up to 3-5m if it is left unpruned. Like most fruit trees it prefers a well draining soil with a sunny aspect. The attractive trees are frost hardy and make a very ornamental garden specimen. They are suited for growing in large pots and in general will start to fruit once the trees get about 1 metre tall.
Ben Hur is a licensed variety ( PBR) and cannot be propagated without the breeders permission.
Our Ben Hur pomegranate trees are are 5-6 months old, 15-20cm tall are sun hardened and ready to plant into a larger pot.
Pomegranates can be used for both fruit and juice. The health food industry is interested in the juice for the high levels of anti-oxidants contained in each fruit. Each fruit can produce as Wonderful is the most widely planted commercial pomegranate variety in California. It has large attractive fruit with a deep purple/red glossy appearance. The arils and juice are pink/red and contain approx. 50% of its weight in juice.
