Ben Hur  produces prolific amounts of very large red fruit that are sweet and juicy, making it a great fruit tree for the avid home gardener.  An attractive shrub, it produces striking red blooms through spring and summer, with copper coloured new foliage growth.  It produces extremely large fruit weighing up to 1.5kg that ripen late season…. Ben Hur is very adaptable tree and will grow in regions ranging from cool temperate to sub-tropical. It is  small deciduous tree/shrub  that is generally best maintained at around 2- 3m high but can reach up to 3-5m if it is left unpruned. Like most fruit trees it prefers a well draining soil with a sunny aspect.   The attractive trees are frost hardy and make a very ornamental garden specimen. They are suited for growing in large pots and in general will start to fruit once the trees get about 1 metre tall.

Ben Hur is a licensed variety ( PBR) and cannot be propagated without the breeders permission.

Our Ben Hur pomegranate trees are are 8-12 months old, 40-60cm tall, sun hardened and ready to plant into a larger pot or directly into the ground.

Pomegranates can be used for both fruit and juice. The health food industry is interested in the juice for the high levels of anti-oxidants contained in each fruit. Each fruit can produce as Wonderful is the most widely planted commercial pomegranate variety in California. It has large attractive fruit with a deep purple/red glossy appearance. The arils and juice are pink/red and as contain around 50% of its weight in juice.
