Description

A dwarf ornamental variety of olive plant ( Olea europaea), Bambalina is favoured for its small leaves and dense growth habit, making it a great choice for hedging and screening.  This variety does not produce many fruit but it is a vigorous grower and the small grey-green leaves respond well to regular pruning.  As a result it is perfect to be shaped for topiary or screening.  It is a very  hardy plant once established.

If trimmed regularly Bambalina will  produce very little fruit. If  left to grow grown as a small tree fruit yield in suitable climates can be moderate.  If left to grow unpruned Bambalina will grow to around 1/4 the size of a regular olive tree (around 3m) but it can maintained at a height of around 1.5 to 2m with regular pruning.

Bambalina is frost hardy and very drought tolerant.. prefers full sun and well drained soil.  When planting as a  hedge spacing of  0.7m to 1m is recommended.

We suggest that initially you plant the olive trees into larger pots and grow them on for three to four months before planting in the garden. In the pots, we recommend only using premium potting mix with some added controlled release fertilizer (Osmocote/ Nutricote etc). Garden soil is not suitable for use in pots.
Once the plants reach around 40 cm tall they are ready to plant in the garden, you will need to keep weeds away from the tree and initially water every couple of days or so to ensure that the roots are kept moist. Mulching around the plant and protecting it with a tree guard is recommended.

Bambalina is a PBR variety

We ship trees early in the week to help ensure they get to most destinations before the weekend.

Please note: due to quarantine restrictions plants cannot be sent to the Northern Territory, Tasmania or Western Australia.
